The Most Hated People on Earth
What if they don’t care about being the most hated people in the world right now as long as they can somehow cash out from it?
In case you don’t already know, Jada Koren Pinkett Smith released a new book this October. It is called Worthy. I like the title and I’m sure that wouldn’t come as a surprise to folks who know me and how drawn I am to good titles. So, good one there, Jada. Good one to you and to your team.
I like it when successful and influential people write anything at all. When what they write about has something to do with themselves or provides some insight into what they are about, where they draw inspiration from or what the journey to being the version of themselves, we see and love, I get even more excited for them. Isn’t it true that we learn when people we admire and look up to share their stories and life experiences?
I have been inspired by books written by Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, the Clintons, the Obamas and some other celebrities I’ve been a fan of for their career, talent and composure when on the job and when they are out and about in the public. Nothing beats a good autobiography or memoir and whenever time allows, I let myself learn from the highs and lows, the failures and triumphs and the examples of success that read like a paid session in a masterclass about success and its attainment.
Success attracts respect and successful people are in most cases, through no fault of theirs I should add, ascribed with attributes of perfection and perceived as infallible.
By any standards used in measuring influence and success in the known world, Jada and her husband Will Smith would individually and collectively be awarded high scores. They belong to that exclusive class of people placed high on the pedestal because of their accomplishments and status as superstars.
Both are successful as actors and in the entertainment industry with careers spanning decades. Married since 1997, they have two equally famous children together, Jaden and Willow. Will has another son, Trey from his first marriage. So, while marriage to Jada was his second stab at matrimony, for Jada it was her first time tying the knot, but we were there for it.
We had love, respect and admiration for the Smiths.
But a few years ago, right before our eyes, things started to unravel. From kids seemingly acting out, the Red Table family confessionals, the entanglements; past (Tupac Shakur) and present (August Alsina), and the slap at the Oscars that was actually the last straw that turned Hollywood royalties to castaways, social media memes and comedy punchline on a night Will should have been basking in the adulation of his peers.
Time changes things and people forget, but it looks like Worthy rather than repair is causing more harm to two damaged careers and it makes me wonder what Jada is up to.
In today’s world, people would break the internet for good or bad publicity as long it keeps them on the trend table. Impressions and the money that come with it is all that counts for some people and the Smiths might be taking all of us for a ride for all we know. What if they don’t care about being the most hated people in the world right now as long as they can somehow cash out from it?
With that being said, I am rooting for Will and Jada. Not so much that they work things out and stay together if that isn’t the best thing for them. My support is for their mental wellness, their careers and their children.
I also wonder what Jada is up to. One thing comes to mind, Will’s memoir was very well received and she probably didn’t want people to compare Worthy to it or think they’ve read it all so she’s coming from a whole different perspective.
